Are cam chats recorded?

Straight answer: the live room is not recorded on our side — close the tab and the session is gone. But no honest video chat site stores literally nothing. Here is exactly what is not kept, what thin layer of metadata is retained for safety and billing, and what stays in your control.

The honest version, in one screen

A lot of sites say "we never record anything." It sounds reassuring and it is almost never true — every service keeps some logs and, if it takes money, some payment records. So here is the split we actually stand behind: the room is not recorded; a small amount of non-video data is retained for the platform to run safely and lawfully.

Not kept

The live video & audio

The room stream itself is not recorded on our side. Close the tab and the session is gone — there is no saved file of your cam-to-cam.

A public copy of the room

Nothing from a private room is published, resold or re-broadcast. There is no gallery, feed or archive where a session resurfaces.

A profile of you

There is no account, no avatar, no message history tied to a name — because the lounge runs without sign-up.

Retained (and why)

Basic operational logs

Standard technical logs (timestamps, error and abuse signals, coarse device/region data) that any service needs to run, fight fraud and keep rooms working.

Credit & payment events

If you top up coins, the transaction record is retained for billing, refunds and accounting — handled by the payment processor, not the room.

Report context

When someone files a report, the context needed to action it is retained for the trust & safety review and any law-enforcement obligation. This is how moderation can work without recording every room.

Why the room is not recorded

A room is a direct, real-time connection between two browsers over WebRTC. The video and audio exist only while the room is open — there is no step where we write the stream to a file. That is a deliberate design choice for a private video chat: the most private thing a platform can do with your session is never hold a copy of it in the first place.

What safety metadata may be retained

Moderation, fraud prevention and billing can't run on thin air, so a narrow set of non-video signals is kept: operational logs, credit/payment events, and — only when a report is filed — the context needed to action it. This is targeted retention, not a recording of every room, and it is what lets us moderate adult cam chat without saving everyone's session. The specifics and retention periods live in our Privacy Policy.

How reporting works without recording the room

When you tap report, the room ends and the context for that flag is sent to the trust & safety queue. Because moderation is real-time — automated filters plus human reviewers — it acts on what was flagged in the moment rather than trawling a stored archive. Confirmed abuse, or anything suggesting an underage user, results in a permanent ban, and we cooperate with law enforcement where the law requires it.

The real recording risk: the other person

The honest caution: even if a platform never records, anyone on any video service can run external screen-capture on their own device. No site can fully prevent that. What we do is make it a zero-tolerance violation, give you a one-tap skip on the call screen with block and report on their profile, and let you take a voice or text room instead of a cam one. Keep documents and identifying details out of frame, and report anyone who appears to be recording.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

  • The live room — the cam-to-cam video and audio — is not recorded on our side. When you close the tab, the session ends and there is no saved copy of it. What we do retain is non-video data: basic operational logs, credit/payment events if you top up, and the context attached to an abuse report. We are deliberate about saying "the room is not recorded" rather than "nothing is stored," because the second claim would not be honest for any real service.

  • On XVideoChat, no — the room stream is not captured on our side. The risk with random video chat is usually the other person: anyone on any platform can run external screen-capture software. That is why recording another user without consent is a zero-tolerance violation here, and why you should keep identifying details out of frame and report anyone who appears to be recording.

  • Moderation runs in real time — automated content filters watch live rooms and flag violations, backed by human reviewers — so it does not need a stored recording of every room. When you report someone, the context for that specific flag is retained so the trust & safety team can act on it. That is the trade-off: targeted retention for safety, not blanket recording of everyone.

  • Credit top-ups create a transaction record that is retained for billing, refunds and accounting, and is handled through the payment processor. That is separate from anything that happens inside a room — the payment record exists whether or not you ever turn a camera on.

  • Largely, yes — there is no sign-up, no profile and no recording of the room. "Anonymous" means the platform is not building an identity for you; it does not mean zero data exists anywhere, because logs and (if you pay) payment records do. The honest summary: the room is private and unrecorded, a thin layer of safety and billing metadata is retained, and the full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Private means not recorded.

The room isn't saved, voice and text rooms never ask for the camera, and reporting works in real time.
